A Big Win for Campaign Finance Reform

A Big Win for Campaign Finance Reform

Public support from Common Cause Mississippi members, other good government advocates and from the press gave campaign finance reform bill SB 2689 the momentum it needed to get passed.

Your calls and e-mails made the difference! Our campaign finance reform bill is ready for the Governor’s signature.

It was public support from Common Cause Mississippi members, other good government advocates and from the press that gave campaign finance reform bill SB 2689 the momentum it needed to get passed.

The final vote was unanimous in the Senate for concurrence and there were only 12 NO votes in the House.

This victory is a reminder that there is great power in grassroots organizing. Because of your support and effort, the use of campaign money for personal expenses will now be prohibited in the state of Mississippi among other measures.

We also would like to give special thanks to House Elections Chair Bill Denny, Mississippi Ethics Commission Chair Tom Hood, and to our own Common Cause lobbyist Elizabeth Crowell for their support and efforts to get SB 2689 passed. This win shows us that even in hard times like this, we can still make great victories for democracy.
