Common Cause Launches Decline to Sign Ad Campaign

Common Cause Michigan is launching a significant ad campaign warning Michiganders that signing their name to any voting-related ballot initiative puts their vote at risk.

Common Cause Michigan is launching a significant ad campaign warning Michiganders that signing their name to any voting-related ballot initiative puts their vote at risk.

Currently, two ballot initiatives are approved for signature gathering that, if approved, would mean eligible U.S. citizens would likely lose their right to vote in Michigan. The ads are running statewide on digital platforms to start. If needed, the campaign will move to in-person organizing, and more direct and digital advertising.

The vast majority of Michiganders believe our elections are fair, but an extreme minority wants to take away our right to vote and is misleading us on their targets. It’s a trap. Don’t fall for it,said Quentin Turner, Michigan Executive Director of Common Cause. Both of these poorly named ballot initiatives would take away U.S. citizen’s right to vote unless they slogged through tons of costly red tape. This is not abstract; we know from our members directly that some would lose their right to vote as U.S. citizens. We will educate as many Michiganders as needed that their friends and neighbors would be affected if this makes the ballot. Don’t sign your name.”

It is paid for with regulated funds by the Voters Not Politicians Ballot Committee. Common Cause does not reveal direct ad strategy or campaign budgets.
