California Common Cause Announces Hiring of Kathay Feng

As New Executive Director

California Common Cause is pleased to announce that Kathay Feng has been hired as the organization’s new Executive Director. Feng, an attorney, has been leading the voting rights and hate crimes work of the Asian Pacific American Legal Center for the past several years. In this capacity she created and chaired the California Voter Empowerment Circle – a statewide coalition of 40 major organizations and individuals advocating for voting policy reforms.

“We are delighted to have Kathay join our organization in a leadership role,” said Rebecca Avila, State Chair, “She has the ideal combination of professional experience, expertise and passion for our mission that we were looking for in an executive director.”

Feng, 35 years old, is a resident of Los Angeles, and received her Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and her law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. In addition to the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, she also worked previously for the law firm of Litt & Marquez, the Office of the California Attorney General, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald S.W. Lew and the Organization of Chinese Americans.

“I am committed to grassroots empowerment and coalition building and look forward to leading a revitalized California Common Cause in its mission to make democracy work for all the people of California,” Feng said.

California Common Cause is the state chapter of Common Cause, the national non-profit, non-partisan citizens lobby. With over 22,000 members statewide the organization has a long history as an effective advocate of government reform and citizen empowerment issues such as campaign finance reform, redistricting reform, voting rights and open meetings laws.
