2023 Legislative Review

This was a year of new beginnings in Annapolis: we inaugurated Wes Moore as Maryland’s 63rd Governor and welcomed an entirely new administration, as well as scores of new State Senators and Delegates within the General Assembly. This was also our staff's first time back fully in-person during the legislative session, though we held legislative leadership accountable to keeping a hybrid option in place so the public could remotely participate in legislative proceedings throughout the full 90-days.

2023 Legislative Priorities

As we transition into a legislative session with an entirely new administration and General Assembly, Common Cause Maryland will continue advocating for reforms aimed at building a more equitable and inclusive democracy. Though many bills introduced this year aim to improve how our democracy functions, the bills below are our priorities for the 90-day session. 2022 Legislative Review

This session, Common Cause Maryland supported reforms that responded to the needs of the local boards of election – especially as more voters are expected to vote by mail in the 2022 elections. Interactive versions of the maps that were adopted as well as any of the relevant materials are included for your review. While technology helped increase transparency around the process, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done in order to ensure...

Young Adults: 5 things you can do today to impact the next 10 years of your life

Young adults have a lot of political power at stake when it comes to fair representation. At the end of the day if your maps don’t represent you, then your representatives won’t represent you. So much of our lives are dependent on the district maps, from the resources for better schools, affordable healthcare and safe neighborhoods. Together, we can secure fair district maps that give us a government in which everyone participates, every vote is counted, and every voice is heard.

2021-2022 Local Redistricting

Common Cause Maryland has been monitoring the redistricting process at the local and state level. We have compiled maps that have been adopted in jurisdictions throughout the state as well as any of the relevant documents for your review. Please note that not all jurisdictions have redrawn their voting districts. While technology has helped increase transparency around the process this cycle, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done in order to ensure that we have fair maps that fully represent Maryland’s diverse population.
