Common Cause Maryland Celebrates Inauguration of Historic State Leaders

Statement from Dr. Lillian Norris-Holmes, advisory board president of Common Cause Maryland, on the swearing in of Governor Wes Moore:

“I’m excited to witness history being made during my time with the election of Maryland’s first Black governor Wes Moore, the only current sitting Black Governor in the nation. I’ve had the opportunity to engage with him throughout his campaign and believe he will do all he can to put the interest of the people of Maryland first during his term. Common Cause Maryland looks forward to working in solidarity with the administration to leave no Marylander behind.”

Statement from Joanne Antoine, executive director of Common Cause Maryland, on the swearing-in of Governor Wes Moore:

“Wes Moore will make history today as Maryland’s first Black governor. Alongside Moore, Aruna Miller will also be sworn in today as Maryland’s first woman of color and immigrant lieutenant governor. The four most powerful positions in Annapolis are now held by leaders that reflect the diversity of Maryland.

“Their victories are meaningful. Maryland’s voters have the power to create a government that looks more like us, and works better for us. Today, let’s take a moment to applaud these leaders and to celebrate this monumental moment. And tomorrow, let’s get to work to protect access to our elections, and improve statewide government transparency measures, and work to move us towards a truly more equitable democracy.”
