As part of the Communications Department, this position is responsible for supporting and working with a talented team of communications strategists working nationally and at the state level to advance democracy reform. As the foundation of the work, the Communications team is responsible for educating and inspiring others to take actions that move our democracy forward. This position must share our commitment to providing effective strategies across media channels that help national and state staff at Common Cause deliver powerful pro-democracy wins.  

We are seeking a redistricting and representation intern to assist with ballot initiatives, legislation, litigation, and public education work. Our efforts include original research, writing for public audiences, media outreach, and public forums that draw a straight line from redistricting to the policy outcomes that impact a community’s health, safety, and economy. We co-lead this work with national and state-based coalition partners representing ethnically, politically, and geographically diverse communities.

Over the course of 10 weeks, you will gain exposure to various aspects of our organization, including Communications + Digital, Organizing, Development, and Policy Advocacy. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities to college students interested in making an impact by engaging in social justice issues that center Voting rights.

The intern will assist with advocacy campaigns, grassroots engagement, communications, and/or member outreach and events. Common Cause Virginia is seeking an Advocacy Intern. This is an exciting opportunity at the intersection of advocacy and communications. This intern will create engaging social media content, organize community events (virtual and in person), and work in collaborative spaces with various coalition partners.
