Registration Modernization

All Delawareans will be able to vote by mail in upcoming elections. First Staters will also now be able to register to vote, or update their name or address, when they go to vote.

"This is a huge step forward for voters. In a state where 12% of the population moves every year, voter registration will no longer be a barrier to casting our ballots."

The legislation allows voters to register to vote, or update their name or address, when they go to vote. Delaware's registration deadline is currently the fourth Saturday prior to the date of the election.

Almost one-fourth of First State voters will not be able to vote in the September 13 primary unless they choose to register with one of the two major parties before this Friday.

In an era of hyperpartisanship, Delaware legislators are working across the aisle to fix a system that requires most voters to register twice, to be able to vote in municipal elections.  The Senate is scheduled to debate and vote on the bill, Senate Bill 233, during its meeting that starts at 2pm today.

More than 40 Delaware clergy and faith leaders joined together in a letter to U.S. Senators Chris Coons and Tom Carper, thanking them for their support of federal voting legislation and asking them to “actively support filibuster reform so that the bills can get passed and onto President Biden’s desk for a signature.”
