Common Cause Wrapped 2025
Blogbeitrag
Your calls and emails have forced the Senate to scrap a major Big Tech giveaway from the budget bill.
Last month, we sounded the alarm about Sen. Ted Cruz and other politicians using this bill to block states from building basic AI guardrails, allowing tech companies and scammers to weaponize AI and putting people at risk of fraud, manipulation, and abuse.
Common Cause activists like you spoke out with over 74,000 calls and letters to Congress, forcing them to weaken the provision – and the Senate voted 99-1 to remove it for good.
We know things can feel overwhelming right now – and part of the anti-democracy MAGA right’s game plan is to make us feel powerless. But with your help, we’ve proven, and keep proving, that we can force Congress to act when we speak out.
Let’s be clear: the rest of this bill is still a disaster and we need to keep mobilizing against it. It’s packed with special interest giveaways, billionaire tax breaks, and cuts to crucial lifelines like Medicaid and food stamps.
The centerpiece is a huge tax cut for the rich – so MAGA Republicans can pay back the wealthy donors who spent big to put them in office.
How are they paying for it? By cutting off support for families in need – kicking millions off their healthcare and taking resources from students, patients, and workers to make the rich richer.
We won’t sit idly by while these politicians cut our healthcare to make billionaires even richer.
All year long, the Trump Administration has gone after our rights, our neighbors, and our way of life – and far too many members of Congress have been complicit in his attacks.
While we just won a crucial fight to stop the dangerous AI provision, most lawmakers are still falling in line with Trump’s agenda, ignoring the people who sent them to Washington.
The bill they’re pushing now remains one of the worst we’ve seen – locking in an extremist vision where the wealthy and powerful get everything they want, while the rest of us are left to struggle. Our fight isn’t over.
Even if your senator is on board with this right-wing agenda, your voice can remind them that they can’t take votes like this without paying a political price.
