This Week in Our Fight for Democracy: July 18th, 2025
Across the country, Common Cause members are standing up to defend our freedoms and demand a democracy that works for all of us—not just the wealthy and well-connected. And with the budget fight heating up in Congress, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
This is what the People’s Promise is all about: protecting our rights, investing in our future, and making sure government works for die Menschen. From local events to national phonebanks, here’s the latest on what we’re doing together—and how you can help.
Why the People’s Promise Matters
Right now, extremists are working to:
- Cut Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid
- Roll back civil rights protections
- Rig our democracy for the wealthy and powerful
But we know: Democracy works best when it works for all of us.
The People’s Promise is our movement-wide commitment to protect our freedoms, expand opportunity, and demand a government that answers to the people—not special interests.
Our People-Powered Movement Is Growing
From coast to coast, our state teams and volunteers are stepping up in powerful ways:
- In New Mexico, organizers connected with hundreds of community members at Pride to spread the word about the People’s Promise campaign.
- In Rhode Island, members showed up to protest a last-minute bill attacking our core democratic values.
- In Oregon, staff and volunteers hosted three member meetings in one day, igniting grassroots momentum across the state.
