Steil joins House GOP in pushing proof-of-citizenship voting act
House Republicans rushed to approve legislation on Wednesday that would impose strict new proof-of-citizenship requirements ahead of the midterm elections, a long shot Trump administration priority that faces sharp blowback in the Senate.
“Every eligible American deserves the freedom to vote without jumping through impossible hoops. But the SAVE Act would scare newly naturalized citizens out of voting and make it harder for millions of eligible voters to cast a ballot—especially seniors, women, students, veterans, voters with disabilities, and rural voters,” Common Cause Wisconsin said.
