Common Cause weighs in on national “gerrymandering wildfire”
This game of chicken between Texas and California was mostly a footnote in today’s briefing. Instead, Common Cause leaders, including Common Cause Wisconsin's Executive Director, Jay Heck, outlined their pitch to keep partisan agendas out of redistricting: independent commissions.
Heck adds, “…we realized that Democrats and Republicans were first and foremost looking out for their own self-partisan interests and not the interests of voters and not the interests of the people that they were supposed to represent.”
Common Cause Wisconsin is now advocating for our state to follow in Michigan’s footsteps and pass legislation that would put redistricting in the hands of an independent commission.
