In 2010, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) wrote rules to protect consumers and prevent Internet service providers from censoring user access to the Internet. These rules known as the \"Open Internet Order\" enshrined the principles of \"network neutrality\" that fueled the Internet's transformative growth and seemingly-boundless innovation. Without these rules, the providers could charge users special fees to get to their favorite websites, or block access to applications on the phones and tablets users already paid for!<\/p>

Yet Verizon has been fighting to overturn these common sense consumer protections since before they even went on the books. Literally<\/a>. The company even admitted in court what we've been saying all along - this whole debate is about winning the right to charge extra tolls. \"But for these rules, we could be pursuing those types of commercial arrangements<\/a>\" their attorney told the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit Court in September.<\/p>

They'll do anything to control what you see, read, and say online, from campaign contributions, to 'creative' lawsuits, to spending $47 million on federal lobbying. The Internet we've come to rely on to communicate and organize is threatened. This is a story that everyone needs to hear.<\/p>
