The American people have demanded bold action from Congress to protect the freedom to vote, break the grip of big money in politics, end gerrymandering, enact strong ethics laws, and strengthen our democracy. We are pleased to see that Senator Joe Manchin has renewed his openness to passing a bill that will do these things, although his proposal is not the final word. We know that Sen. Manchin’s openness is because of the thousands of calls, texts, letters, and postcards activists from Common Cause and our partners have directed at him in the last few weeks and we have no plans of stopping until the For the People Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act are signed into law by President Biden.
