Marc Caplan tham gia Common Cause

Common Cause is honored to announce that Marc Caplan, for 20 years one of the key figures in the money and politics movement, will join Common Cause on October 13 as Senior Advisor on Democracy Issues and Coordinator of Money in Politics.  In that role, Marc will work closely with the Democracy Initiative and work to create new partnerships on issues of money in politics and electoral reform.

For the last eight years, Marc Caplan directed the Piper Fund, a project of the Proteus Fund.  In that role, he was an anchor in the money in politics field as both a funder and a strategist, supporting creative state efforts to win citizen-based financing of elections.   Prior to that, he was the Director of Northeast Action, a regional support center for citizen organizing and advocacy in New England and New York, and a key leader of progressive organizing and electoral efforts in Connecticut.

Miles Rapoport, President of Common Cause, said the organization’s work on critical democracy issues will be “dramatically enhanced” with Caplan’s arrival.  “Marc has been absolutely essential to the successes of the money in politics movement.  His work in identifying opportunities for success and helping build the broad coalitions needed to win has been indispensable to organizations around the country.”

“I’ve worked with Marc Caplan on money and politics issues in Connecticut and around the country,” added Karen Hobert Flynn, Common Cause’s Senior Vice President for Strategy and Programs.  “He is creative, relentlessly dedicated, and he makes things move.  Common Cause will be enriched by his presence.”

Caplan said he is delighted to be joining the Common Cause team. “Common Cause is a major national resource, with chapters and advocates all around the country.  It will be an honor to join the organization. It is a perfect perch from which to advance the work I care most about– building a movement for real democracy reform.”
