Election reform advocates Common Cause, Electronic Frontier Foundation, VerifiedVoting.org, VoteTrustUSA, VotersUnite.org, Rock the Vote, Working Assets and activists from across the country joined together at a Capitol Hill press conference Friday in support of legislation that would require voting systems to generate a voter-verified paper trail.

The election reform groups were joined at a press conference by more than 65 activists from 17 states, who traveled to Washington DC on their own dime to spend two days lobbying members of Congress and their staffs in support of H.R. 550, the Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act, which would require voting systems used in federal elections to generate a voter verifiable paper trail that could be inspected by voters prior to their votes being cast. That bill is sponsored by Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ).

Combined, the citizen lobbyists attended more than 80 meetings with congressional representatives after Common Cause hosted an activist training session on Thursday morning.
