Here\u2019s how it measures up:<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. Texas\u2019s redistricting plan is NOT a proportionate response to other states.<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas started this mid-decade redistricting battle by pushing to aggressively redraw its map <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/tl\/texas\/trabaho\/texas-redistricting-stop-abbott-trumps-power-grab\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to add <\/span><b>up to five new Republican seats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before the 2026 mid-terms<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, at Trump\u2019s request.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. Texas\u2019s redistricting process did NOT include meaningful public participation.<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Texas plan was introduced quickly, in a special legislative session. While three in-person hearings were scheduled, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/texas-gop-rushing-through-redistricting-scheme\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas legislators were slow to release the actual new maps in question, making it difficult for Texans to voice their concerns.<\/span><\/a>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. Texas\u2019s redistricting plan is NOT racially equitable.<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/tl\/texas\/trabaho\/texas-redistricting-stop-abbott-trumps-power-grab\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas\u2019s map dilutes the voting power of voters of color<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, dividing historically Black and Latino neighborhoods in Houston and Dallas and reducing the amount of majority-minority districts throughout the state.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4. Texas\u2019s redistricting leaders have NOT supported federal reform.<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas lawmakers have not publicly supported federal reforms like the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, the Freedom to Vote Act, or a ban on mid-decade redistricting.<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5. Texas\u2019s leaders have NOT endorsed independent redistricting.<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas maps are being drawn and passed by the party in power, and there have been no calls by Texas leaders to move the state towards the use of independent redistricting committees.<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6. Texas\u2019s redistricting plan is NOT time-limited.<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/TX\/text\/HB4\/id\/3266202\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The redistricting bill, H.B. No. 4, states that the new maps will take effect in 2026, but does not explicitly state when they will expire.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In 2003, Texas redrew their maps mid-decade and eventually returned to decennial redistricting, but there is no guarantee they will do so again.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<strong>That\u2019s a 0\/6.
