Common Cause has been a leader to expand vote by\u00a0mail\u00a0so\u00a0the right to vote\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0depend on what state you live in.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n

Here are seven more reasons why all states should allow mail-in voting:\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\r\n1.\u00a0<\/span>Mail-in voting\u00a0<\/span><\/b>works for those who make our country work<\/span><\/b>: It\u00a0makes voting\u00a0available\u00a0to\u00a0those who work\u00a0odd\u00a0or long\u00a0hours,\u00a0people\u00a0like medical staff, firefighters,\u00a0and\u00a0third\u00a0shift workers.\u00a0These folks are often sleeping\u00a0during the day\u00a0or\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0change their hours to go to the polls\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>person.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<\/b>2. Mail-i<\/span><\/b>n voting works for caregivers: <\/span><\/b>It makes voting available to\u00a0parents and caregivers\u00a0who are juggling work, taking care of others, and\u00a0all\u00a0kinds of\u00a0scheduling challenges\u00a0that\u00a0make getting to the polls in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>person\u00a0a difficulty.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<\/b>3. Mail in voting works safely and securely: <\/span><\/b>To\u00a0keep elections secure, states\u00a0have\u00a0various rules\u00a0and requirements\u00a0about signatures, envelopes,\u00a0and\u00a0deadlines,\u00a0etc.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>If you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0follow those rules, your ballot\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0count unless you fix those mistakes.\u00a0And for those who\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0know, voting without being a U.S. citizen\u00a0has been\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>federal crime and punishable by jail<\/span><\/a>\u00a0since President Clinton was in office.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<\/b>4. Mail-in voting works for rural America: <\/span><\/b>It allows\u00a0rural and small population areas to avoid long drives to vote in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>-<\/span>person. This is what happens in Nebraska and North Dakota, which\u00a0allows\u00a0counties to opt-in to all mail ballots<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<\/b>5. Mail-in voting works for faster results: <\/span><\/b>It allows\u00a0for the\u00a0counting of votes to\u00a0speed\u00a0up, if\u00a0states allow it. Mail-in votes can be processed and ready to be counted (aka tabulated) so that when the voting time ends on election day, those ballots can be securely put into the machine ASAP.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<\/b>6. Mail-in voting works for Republicans and Democrats: <\/span><\/b>It's\u00a0an extremely\u00a0popular way\u00a0to vote. In fact, in 2024,\u00a0nearly\u00a0<\/span>1\u00a0in 3 Americans voted by mail.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why both\u00a0\u201cred\u201d and \u201cblue\u201d states\u00a0offer voters this method of casting a ballot, including\u00a0Arizona,\u00a0Nebraska,\u00a0California<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Oregon.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n7. Mail-in voting works for higher participation: <\/span><\/b>It\u00a0increases participation!<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe truth is that mail-in voting is\u00a0a great way\u00a0for people to vote.
