After hundreds of millions in campaign spending and a boost on social media platform X, President Trump granted Musk an
official White House email address, office space, and access to critical government functions through his fabricated “DOGE” network.

This level of access for a private billionaire is unheard of and deeply troubling. Musk has reportedly influenced decisions that hurt everyday Americans, from attempts to cut off aid to save on his tax bill to pressuring federal employees into resigning.

The Takeover Playbook

These are not minor administrative changes but rather part of a full-scale takeover attempt. Musk, an unaccountable and unelected billionaire, was pushing to control public spending, dismantle the safety net, and reshape our way of life to suit his interests.

It’s clear what was happening here: Musk and Trump aimed to replace qualified civil servants with political allies whose loyalty lies solely with them. Their goal? Slash billions from essential public services to benefit their billionaire friends.

Spreading Hate and Dangerous Influence

Elon Musk was using his platform to spread white supremacist rhetoric, including a now-infamous gesture during a Trump rally that white nationalist groups have celebrated. Reports also suggest that Musk played a significant role in decisions to pardon violent January 6th insurrectionists, attempting to rewrite the history of that dark day.

Despite these red flags, Trump handed Musk unparalleled access to the highest levels of government without requiring Senate confirmation or adherence to federal ethical standards.

Billionaires Shouldn’t Rule America

This is a familiar story: billionaires buying their way into power and advancing their self-serving agendas at everyone else’s expense. But the United States is not a corporation, and our government is not a for-profit enterprise.

Elon Musk was not a government official. He’s a billionaire with no accountability to the American people, and nobody voted for him. Our democracy deserved better.
