Trump Administration Demands Minnesotans’ Private Voter Data To Call Off His Secret Police

Common Cause is fighting back in court across the country to protect voters’ privacy, stop unlawful data grabs, and defend free and fair elections.

The Trump Administration has sent masked, armed, secret police to terrorize Minnesotans — and Attorney General Pam Bondi is demanding access to private voter data before she’ll call them off.

Make no mistake, everything we’re seeing right now is connected — and part of a larger authoritarian plan to steal the 2026 election and intimidate anyone who won’t go along with their hostile takeover.

It won’t just be Minnesota – if we don’t take action NOW it’ll come to your state next. Read on to see how Common Cause is fighting to defend your rights.

A Coordinated, Multi-State Attack on Voters and Democracy

That’s why Common Cause has gone to court in 13 states and the District of Columbia to defend against this anti-voter shakedown. This is where the fight for a free and fair 2026 election begins – in the granular, state-by-state battles to defend your rights that Common Cause does best.

Trump’s Strategy: Intimidation, Targeting, and Permanent Power

Donald Trump clearly believes that his ticket to permanent power is to single out and silence anyone he doesn’t think will support him – including people of color and naturalized citizens who worked hard to earn their right to vote.

So, he’s directing MAGA loyalists in state after state to carry out his plot. And in response, Common Cause’s legal team is filing cases and taking bold action to stop them in their tracks.

Why These Lawsuits Matter for the 2026 Election

Why? Because if we fail here, and the 2026 election is decided not by which party persuades the most voters – but which one does a better job of rigging the rules, then American democracy is as good as dead.

That’s a stark reality – and one we wish wasn’t the case – but it’s what we’re up against, and we’ve made the choice to face it head on and win.

In our cases  we’re fighting the same dangerous demand from Trump’s Department of Justice:a push for states to turn over their full voter rolls, including names, addresses, and partial Social Security and driver’s license numbers.

Once that data leaves state control, it could be misused, handed over to extremists, or weaponized for political gain. Just last week, the DOJ admitted in court that DOGE inappropriately handed some Americans’ social security data to an advocacy organization seeking to spread Donald Trump’s lies about our elections. That’s why we’re in court to stop this – and protect your privacy and your vote.

In addition to intervening as a defendant in cases across the country, we also stopped Nebraska from going along with his request after we filed suitin that state against this same kind of unlawful federal data grab. These might seem like isolated fights – but I know you see the big picture.

Common Cause Is Defending Democracy State by State

When we’re up against a coordinated, multi-state effort to silence our voices, we need a fighter like Common Cause – like Common Cause Minnesota, Common Cause Pennsylvania, Common Cause Nebraska, and Common Cause in your home state too. We’re ready to get to work wherever we’re needed – thanks to your support.

Our legal experts are fighting for you – and for the democracy we all want to leave for the next generation.

We’re proud of the strength, speed, and strategy our legal team is bringing to these cases – and even prouder to have supporters like you standing with us at this moment.

The Republicans Against Nationalizing Elections Before Trump Said It Out Loud

Whether it’s the term nationalizing or federalizing, it’s the same thing. We’ve said it once before, but we’ll say it again. Presidents don’t set election laws. They never have, and never will.
