In response to the Washington Post’s reporting on a likely new presidential executive order on elections, Common Cause and its more than 1 million members are preemptively announcing they will challenge any order that reduces voting rights.  

“Presidents don’t set election law, not now, and not ever,” said Virginia Kase Solomón, Common Cause President and CEO. “Americans nationwide reject President Trump’s attempt to pick and choose who can vote in a major election year. If this administration continues to ignore the will of the people, Karaniwang Dahilan will see them in court.” 

In March 2025, President Donald Trump released an election-related executive order that Common Cause opposed.  At least five different courts have struck down that executive order.  

Additionally, Common Cause is actively fighting any legislation in Congress that removes voting rights, including the SAVE Act, SAVE American Act, and MEGA Act. The recent acknowledgement by Senate leadership that such bills do not have lawmakers' support to pass reflect the voters’ broad opposition to the policies.  

Common Cause is also currently fighting state-level anti-voter bills in Florida through legislative advocacy, at in Indiana, through a lawsuit. Common Cause will continue to oppose any state-level legislation that arises.
