","featured_image":"","press_type":153,"authors":null,"related_issues":[113,408],"related_work":false,"location":52},"sidebar":{"helper_enable_sidebar":false,"helper_media_contact":{"heading":"Media Contact","manually_enter_person":false,"person":null,"name":"","role":"","phone":"","email":""},"helper_links_downloads":{"heading":"Links & Downloads","links":null}},"page_layout":[{"acf_fc_layout":"layout_wysiwyg","_acfe_flexible_toggle":null,"component_wysiwyg":{"content":"<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AUSTIN \u2014\u00a0 The Texas House General Investigating Committee heard testimony Wednesday regarding a sweeping investigation into <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/texas-ken-paxton-investigation-40ba70a33235eda9a31fc2628cbd7d61\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">serious misconduct<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the revelations provided by investigators about Texas\u2019 top law enforcement officer were:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abuse of power to help a campaign donor<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evidence of abuse of official capacity\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Misuse of official information\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Misapplication of fiduciary property\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acceptance of an improper gift\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Late Wednesday, following the conclusion of the legislative hearing,\u00a0 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scottbraddock\/status\/1661532562634813440?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">came reports of an actual dumpster fire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> outside the office of the Attorney General.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paxton is also facing separate criminal charges of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">securities fraud charges following 2015 indictments, but has yet to go to trial.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Common Cause Texas, a nonpartisan good government group, is calling for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2023\/05\/25\/censure-impeachment-whats-next-for-texas-ag-ken-paxton-after-house-corruption-probe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">impeachment hearings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to begin.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following is a statement from <\/span><b>Common Cause Texas Executive Director Anthony Gutierrez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAccountability for Ken Paxton\u2019s wildly unethical, corrupt, and likely illegal actions, is way overdue.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ken Paxton is no stranger to scandals but these latest allegations rise to a level that cannot be ignored by legislators and must be acted on to protect the public\u2019s interests.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this point Ken Paxton\u2019s indictment charges are old enough to start kindergarten and we\u2019re still waiting on the courts to act.
