","featured_image":"","press_type":153,"authors":[null],"related_issues":[115,117,406],"related_work":false,"location":52},"sidebar":{"helper_enable_sidebar":false,"helper_media_contact":{"heading":"Media Contact","manually_enter_person":false,"person":null,"name":"","role":"","phone":"","email":""},"helper_links_downloads":{"heading":"Links & Downloads","links":null}},"page_layout":[{"acf_fc_layout":"layout_wysiwyg","_acfe_flexible_toggle":null,"component_wysiwyg":{"content":"AUSTIN \u2014 New voters have until <\/span>Tuesday, October 11<\/b> to register to vote so they are eligible to cast a ballot in the November 8 midterm election.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nAdditionally, all Texans should take time now to double-check their voter registration so any wrong information can be corrected or updated before Tuesday\u2019s deadline to register, said <\/span>Anthony Gutierrez, executive director for Common Cause Texas.\u00a0<\/b>\r\n\r\n\u201cOur democracy works best when we all are heard at the ballot box,\u201d Gutierrez said.\u00a0 <\/span>\r\n<\/span>\u201cEncourage your loved ones, friends, colleagues, and neighbors to spend a few minutes <\/span>ensuring they will be able to make their voices heard at the ballot box on November 8th<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nTexas makes it harder to register to vote than nearly every other state in the country. We are one of only a handful of states that does not offer online voter registration. The 30-day window between the voter registration deadline and Election Day is among the longest in the deadline, preventing Texans who don\u2019t tune in until close to the election from registering. Texas also doesn\u2019t have same-day registration, unlike 21 other states which allow eligible voters to register to vote and cast a ballot during the early voting period or on Election Day.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cOur states antiquated voter registration process keeps far too many Texans from exercising their right to vote,\u201d Gutierrez said. \u201cIt\u2019s past time for Texas to make it easier, and not harder, for people to vote.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nAnyone with questions or who encounters problems trying to vote can call or text the nonpartisan Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (<\/span>866-687-8683).<\/span>\r\n\r\nOther important election-related dates for voters:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n
