Statement from Common Cause Texas Executive Director Anthony Gutierrez\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\nWe welcome\u00a0federal action from the Department of Justice over the\u00a0blatantly discriminatory\u00a0maps designed to deny Black, Brown, and Asian Texans a voice in our government.\u00a0These racially and partisan gerrymandered maps deny every voter in Texas from having an equal say in the issues we care about most, like\u00a0a stronger economy, better schools,\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0robust energy grid.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWhile we are grateful for the involvement of the federal government, what\u00a0we need to stop the five-decade\u00a0cycle of\u00a0having to take legal action every ten\u00a0years is\u00a0for Congress to\u00a0pass the Freedom to Vote Act.
