Common Cause will continue working with youth advocates to champion the changes needed to ensure young people\u00a0can have a say in the decisions impacting their futures.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0Artivism\u00a0Contest invited youth ages 14-28 to raise their voices on any set of nine democracy issues, including access to voting, campaign finance reform,\u00a0fighting against gerrymandering, and more. Contest winners\u2019 art will be featured in the\u00a0<\/span>Common Cause Shop<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on select apparel and merchandise. Winners will also receive cash prizes, with $1,500 for first place, $800 for second place, and $600 for third place.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cMy piece represents the ongoing struggle for equal rights for individuals in the LGBTQ+ community,\u201d said\u00a0<\/span>Jacob Wiant,\u00a0second\u00a0place winner in the 2021 Common Cause\u00a0Artivism\u00a0contest<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0\u201cAs a gay man and an artist, it is my responsibility to protest through art and design.\u00a0This piece communicates a sense of solidarity to other members of the LGBTQ+ community, especially those who suffer in silence.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWiant\u00a0submitted a\u00a0rainbow-colored visual representation of a protest with the words \u201cMy Vote Our Voice.\u201d\u00a0His\u00a0winning art is part of\u00a0the\u00a0Free Speech and Freedom to Protest\u00a0category and was one of three winners in the 18\u201323-year-old age group.\u00a0Wiant\u00a0is one of seven winners representing seven cities from California to North Carolina.
