Voters can view final totals <\/span>here.<\/span><\/a>\r\n\r\nAccording to the Texas Division of Elections, nearly <\/span>11.3 million Texans<\/span> participated in Tuesday\u2019s general election election, for a 61% turnout.<\/span>\r\n\r\nDuring the general election election, Common Cause Texas and other partner organizations highlighted some of the main issues their nonpartisan poll monitors encountered:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n

  • Problems with voter registration\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Issues with vote-by-mail ballot arrival\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Voter ID issues\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Vote-by-mail application issues\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Electioneering issues<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • In-person intimidation<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nIn response to the general election election, Anthony Gutierrez, Executive Director of Common Cause Texas issued the following statement:<\/b>\r\n\r\n\u201cIn this election, we saw a large number of fairly minor issues across the state but thankfully very few serious issues.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cThe single biggest problem we saw, in my opinion, was far too few Texans voting.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cOnce all the counting is complete, Texas will once again rank near the bottom among all states when it comes to turnout, and this is a problem our state leaders seem more than happy to ignore.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cIf the politicians in charge would like to see more Texans showing up at the polls, we have a long list of improvements to improve our elections.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cWe can adopt online voter registration, allow Texans to register closer to Election Day, expand access to vote-by-mail, require poll sites on college campuses, and invest more in our election infrastructure.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cIn no other area do we see Texas leaders resigned to perpetually being ranked among the worst in the nation. We\u2019re hoping this upcoming session will be the one where legislators finally get serious about tackling our serious participation problem.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\r\n
