What we\u2019re seeing today is a small preview of what we can expect to see at a far wider scale in November unless the federal government finally takes real action to intervene.\"\r\n\r\n","featured_image":"","press_type":153,"authors":["{\"site_id\":\"1\",\"post_type\":\"person\",\"post_id\":7877}"],"related_issues":[117,406],"related_work":false,"location":52},"sidebar":{"helper_enable_sidebar":false,"helper_media_contact":{"heading":"Media Contact","manually_enter_person":false,"person":null,"name":"","role":"","phone":"","email":""},"helper_links_downloads":{"heading":"Links & Downloads","links":null}},"page_layout":[{"acf_fc_layout":"layout_wysiwyg","_acfe_flexible_toggle":null,"component_wysiwyg":{"content":"<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hoy es el d\u00eda de las elecciones en Texas, las primeras desde que los republicanos aprobaron <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/texas\/es\/press-release\/el-gobernador-de-texas-firma-un-proyecto-de-ley-que-suprime-la-participacion-electoral-y-dificulta-que-todos-los-texanos-puedan-votar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Proyecto de ley del Senado n.\u00ba 1<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, un paquete \u00f3mnibus de disposiciones que restringen la participaci\u00f3n electoral. <\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A continuaci\u00f3n se presenta una declaraci\u00f3n del director ejecutivo de Common Cause Texas, Anthony Guti\u00e9rrez:<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTexas ya era el estado m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil para votar antes de que los republicanos aprobaran estas leyes que lo hicieron a\u00fan m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lo que estamos viendo hoy es un peque\u00f1o avance de lo que podemos esperar ver a una escala mucho mayor en noviembre, a menos que el gobierno federal finalmente tome medidas reales para intervenir.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vimos solicitudes de voto por correo y boletas rechazadas a tasas sin precedentes, sitios de votaci\u00f3n que abrieron tarde o no abrieron en absoluto debido a la escasez de trabajadores electorales y problemas tecnol\u00f3gicos generalizados.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">El estado fue advertido sobre la posibilidad de que se produjeran estos problemas cuando se estaban examinando estos proyectos de ley en el comit\u00e9. Aunque tuvieron muchas oportunidades, nuestro Secretario de Estado decidi\u00f3 centrarse en la pol\u00edtica y la implementaci\u00f3n qued\u00f3 en manos de funcionarios locales que recibieron poca o ninguna orientaci\u00f3n o comunicaci\u00f3n del director electoral de nuestro estado.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">La democracia de Texas no puede continuar por mucho m\u00e1s tiempo con una infraestructura electoral tan poco confiable.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Demasiados tejanos, sin tener la culpa, se est\u00e1n enfrentando a problemas creados por un liderazgo estatal hiperpartidista y, para muchos de ellos, la cantidad de tiempo y esfuerzo necesarios para navegar por estos nuevos procesos es simplemente demasiado.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Los problemas que estamos viendo hoy ser\u00e1n problemas mucho mayores en noviembre, cuando un n\u00famero exponencialmente mayor de personas acudan a las urnas.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sabemos que los pol\u00edticos a cargo de Texas no har\u00e1n nada para evitar que los problemas que estamos viendo hoy se conviertan en un problema en noviembre. Necesitamos que el Congreso intervenga y tome medidas o veremos estos problemas en cantidades mucho mayores y en m\u00e1s estados en noviembre.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">En definitiva, nuestros funcionarios electos deber\u00edan facilitar, no dificultar, que cada votante elegible haga o\u00edr su voz en nuestras elecciones democr\u00e1ticas. Estas primeras elecciones desde la aprobaci\u00f3n de la SB1 demuestran que Texas no est\u00e1 cumpliendo con esa expectativa.
