With critical presidential primaries underway in five states, including some with new voter identification requirements, Common Cause is urging voters to stand up for their right to vote if they’re challenged at the polls.
“Election Day is the one day when each of us has an equal voice on the direction of our communities and our country,” said Allegra Chapman. “It’s critical that all eligible voters get to cast ballots – and that all our voices are heard.”
Chapman urged voters who run into problems at their polling places or who have questions about registration and ID requirements, polling locations or any issue involving voting to contact the Election Protection hotline, 1-866-OURVOTE or 1-888-VE-Y-VOTA for those who speak Spanish. By midday on Tuesday, the hotline already had fielded more than 2,000 calls.
Assistance and information about voting requirements and procedures also is available online at www.866OurVote.org.
“Your vote is yours and yours alone,” Chapman said. “But you’re not alone if you run into problems when you attempt to cast it. Election Protection has a staff of lawyers and election experts who provide information and troubleshoot problems as they occur.”
