Statement by Common Cause President Karen Hobert Flynn

If President Trump does not have the courage to call for a Special Prosecutor to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election then Congress must mandate it. Patriots on Capitol Hill must stand together and look beyond partisan politics to stand up for our national sovereignty. Revelations that Trump’s Attorney General Jeff Sessions met privately with the Russian Ambassador and then denied it to the Senate committee weighing his nomination is beyond the pale. Sessions should follow the lead of Michael Flynn and resign but at the very least he has proven that he has no business being anywhere near any investigation of Russian interference in the election.
