Meet Peter…
Peter Reinke is principal of Banneker Compass, LLC, a boutique firm specializing in board governance, workplace culture and labor compliance. A nationally recognized expert on board governance, Peter served in both the 1st and 2nd Schwarzenegger administrations in major public policy roles related to pension investment security. He chairs the audit committee for the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles’ $50 million investment trust and is a former vice-president of Oakland, CA’s Public Ethics Commission and past chair of that city’s Sunshine Ordinance Committee.
Peter has been active in Common Cause since the late 1990s and is the longest serving member of the California Board of Common Cause. He worked to bring instant run-off voting to Alameda County and supported several other initiatives relating to increasing voter access and engagement.
Peter is a retired Head of School, and spent 30 years in the education field. He has served on the boards of six highly respected California schools, and works closely with both the California Community Foundation and the Episcopal Church Foundation on strategic support for regional pipelines to grow access for first generation college students and to build discounted tuition opportunities for low-income families at K-12 preparatory schools.
Peter began his career working for United States Senator John Chafee in the 1990s, specializing in education, banking reform and government ethics. He also worked closely with United States Senators Jim Jeffords and Ted Kennedy on launching Everybody Wins, a literacy initiative featured at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
