We must hold our leaders accountable, beginning with Larry Householder.\u2019\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Householder and former Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges are accused of participating in a $60 million scheme<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">install utility-friendly Householder as Speaker;<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">push passage of House Bill 6 (HB6) \u2014 a ratepayer-funded bailout of two nuclear power plants owned by a FirstEnergy subsidiary and two aging coal plants, and;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">kill an effort by voters to overturn the bailout law.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dark money groups were used to mask the source of funding. Additionally, Householder is accused of receiving more than $500,000 for his personal benefit. FirstEnergy, the source of much of the money involved, admitted its role and was fined $230 million in a 2021 deferred prosecution agreement.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Householder is currently charged with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">racketeering involving bribery and money laundering <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and could face up to 20 years in jail if convicted.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>\u201cWhile the Householder scandal has been made public for three years, no legislation has been passed to end this cycle of corruption,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> said Turcer. <\/span><b>\u201cIt\u2019s time for state legislators to take action.\u201d<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This month, Common Cause Ohio launched a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/resource\/shining-a-light-on-dark-money-its-time-for-ohioans-to-unite-for-a-brighter-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> detailing the Householder\/HB6 scandal.
