Ballots returned to local precinct polling places will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be counted. Only close relatives \u2014 including step-relatives \u2014 can return a voted ballot to the board of elections, according to Ohio law.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you decide to mail your ballot it <\/span><b>must <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be postmarked by today, Monday, Aug. 1.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<b>For Election Day voting:<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Election Day polling places open on Tues., Aug. 2 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Ohioans can <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/voterlookup.ohiosos.gov\/voterlookup.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">check their polling place<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before they vote.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because Ohio accepts several forms of ID, voters can bring their Ohio driver\u2019s license, utility bill, cell phone bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck with their name and current address. Ohioans ask for the ballot they want. If a voter is an Independent, they can ask for an issues-based ballot.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voters can view what\u2019s on the ballot <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/elections\/voters\/toolkit\/sample-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Statement of Catherine Turcer, Common Cause Ohio Executive Director\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe right to vote is the foundation of our government, and elections \u2014 both generals and primaries \u2014 are a key element of that foundation.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tomorrow, Aug. 2, marks Ohio\u2019s second primary election. While it is hard to go to the polls knowing that the Ohio House and Senate districts have been determined to be unconstitutional, Ohioans want to have their say.\u00a0 Voters will not opt out because of these rigged voting districts.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There may be some voter confusion because of this additional primary. On Election Day, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. You can <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/voterlookup.ohiosos.gov\/voterlookup.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">check your polling place<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before you get in line, and you\u2019re allowed to bring one of several <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.state.oh.us\/elections\/voters\/id-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">acceptable IDs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in order to vote. If you requested a mail-in ballot, it must be postmarked by TODAY, Monday, Aug. 1. Voted ballots can be returned to the County Board of Elections until 7:30pm on Election Day.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have questions or need assistance, you can call or text the Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE. The nonpartisan Election Protection program has been helping voters for more than two decades.
