Four sets of maps have been struck down by the Ohio Supreme Court.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>First: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Passed 9\/16\/2021; Challenged 9\/23\/2021; Struck down 1\/14\/2022<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Second: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Passed 1\/22\/2022; Challenged 1\/25\/2022; Struck down 2\/7\/2022<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Third: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Passed 2\/24\/2022; Challenged 2\/28\/2022; Struck down 3\/16\/2022<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Fourth: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Passed 3\/28\/2022; Challenged 4\/1\/2022; Struck down 4\/14\/2022<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Fifth: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Passed 5\/5\/2022; Challenged 5\/6\/2022; Waiting\u2026<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 4th set of maps was <\/span><b>nearly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> identical to the 3rd set. The 5th set is <\/span><b>exactly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> identical to the 3rd set. Problem of <\/span><b>asymmetry<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8567\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/05\/22422-GA-Maps.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1604\" height=\"988\" \/>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ohio Redistricting Commission openly defied the order from the Ohio Supreme Court to draw a new map by May 6.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Refused to consider the completed independent mappers work.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Re-submitted maps already struck down by the court.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Used the excuse that BOEs are already programming the 2\/24 maps\u2014Successful strategy to run out the clock.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meanwhile\u2026<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Federal panel set 5\/28 deadline for new GA maps, but said if the ORC fails, the court will adopt the 2\/24 maps (which is what the ORC wants anyway).<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New contempt filings from OOC &amp; NDRC on 5\/10 &amp; LWV 5\/11<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lack of clarity around how long the maps might be in place.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8568\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/05\/Sweeney.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1582\" height=\"1000\" \/>\r\n\r\n<b>Ohio\u2019s Congressional Map Pending Lawsuits<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We voted using the 2nd congressional map in the May 3rd primary, even though two lawsuits are still in process and the 3\/2 map may yet be ruled unconstitutional. Each very different:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The ACLU of Ohio <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/04\/LWV-Congress-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">filed a lawsuit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on 3\/22 on behalf of LWVO. They are asking the Court to order the General Assembly, or Commission, to fix the 3\/2\/2022 map in time for the 2024 election. The lawsuit identifies districts that are clearly in violation and calls for the Supreme Court to order the mapmakers to fix these districts (CD 1 &amp; 15).<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Elias Law Group filed a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/04\/NRAF-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">separate lawsuit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on 3\/21, seeking relief in time for the 2022 elections. The complaint asks the Court to issue a preliminary injunction for the primary election and court-ordered map chosen. An alternative request for relief asks the Court to order the General Assembly, or Commission, or draw a map in accordance with the Courts 1\/14\/22 order.\u00a0 This lawsuit is asking for a complete redraw.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8569\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/05\/32-Congressional.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1534\" height=\"996\" \/>\r\n\r\n<b>Actions!<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Glen Campbell, Cuyahoga County: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe activists need to be empowered to act in some constructive way in the face of the demoralizing contempt and disdain our state's voters have been subjected to.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Letters to the editor<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Register voters<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Election Protection<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ask your local candidates if they support fair districts and how they will protect democracy!<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What else are you doing?
