This Congressional map will be used for Election 2024. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ohio Supreme Court dismissed the two lawsuits, leaving the congressional map created on March 2, 2022 in place for the next election. <\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>October 14, 2022: <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of drawing a new compliant map, a lawsuit <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/case-files\/cases\/huffman-v-neiman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Huffman v. Neiman <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was filed urging the U.S. Supreme Court to step in\u00a0 arguing that because the Elections Clause of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislature to adopt rules for congressional elections, it prohibits the Ohio Supreme Court from enforcing the Ohio Constitution in reviewing the Ohio legislature\u2019s congressional plan.\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Huffman v. Nieman <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was sent back to the Ohio Supreme Court on June 20, 2023.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>July 19, 2022:<\/strong>\u00a0 a bipartisan majority on the Ohio Supreme Court <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.ohio.gov\/rod\/docs\/pdf\/0\/2022\/2022-ohio-2471.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">struck down<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/05\/32-Congressional.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">March 2, 2022 congressional map<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 the one used in the May 3 primary. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe hold that the March 2 plan unduly favors the Republican Party and disfavors the Democratic Party in violation of Article XIX, Section 1(C)(3)(a).\u201d<\/span><\/i>\r\n\r\n<strong>2022 Lawsuits: <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two lawsuits were filed against this map:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ACLU of Ohio <a href=\"http:\/\/supremecourt.ohio.gov\/pdf_viewer\/pdf_viewer.aspx?pdf=921097.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filed a lawsuit<\/a> on 3\/22\/22 on behalf of LWVO asking the Court to order the General Assembly, or Commission, to fix the 3\/2\/2022 map in time for the 2024 election and issue a PI for holding congressional elections for 2024.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The voting rights groups still claim that Districts 1 and 15 are not constitutionally compliant but cite the electoral calendar as preventing relief in time for 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Elias Law Group filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.ohio.gov\/pdf_viewer\/pdf_viewer.aspx?pdf=921050.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">separate lawsuit<\/a> on 3\/21\/22, seeking relief in time for the 2022 elections. The complaint asks the Court to issue a PI for the primary election and court-ordered map chosen. An alternative request for relief asks the Court to order the General Assembly, or Commission, or draw a map in accordance with the Courts 1\/14\/22 order.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>March 2, 2022: <\/strong>Senate President Huffman introduced what would be voted on and passed through the Commission as the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/davesredistricting.org\/join\/fea33901-b824-4b0a-b92c-d65d65df068a\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second Congressional Map<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hours before the Ohio Redistricting Commission hearing. During the hearing, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/davesredistricting.org\/join\/2ba6b7c8-6f10-4746-9cc5-591e110ec334\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Democratic Amendments<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the proposed map were rejected along party lines.
