The slides are full of links and quotes\u2014and you\u2019ll find even more useful and informative links <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1ebJ3jJ8FumU24RTI9YNaeIkzkLMsjJi74CjdZB4abrs\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">HERE<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the meeting we discussed the most recent redistricting developments with both state legislative maps and Ohio\u2019s congressional map, Ohio\u2019s primary, and more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Ohio House and Senate Maps<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Ohio Redistricting Commission passed a third set of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/davesredistricting.org\/join\/5d953ef5-46b0-443a-a05d-fa78568afe4d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ohio House<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/davesredistricting.org\/join\/969eede9-efb5-42ee-9595-da0ee95ba963\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ohio Senate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> maps on February 24. (See <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/03\/How-to-Zoom-in-on-your-neighborhood-in-Daves-Redistricting-App.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">useful tips<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on how to zoom in using Dave\u2019s Redistricting App.)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Those maps were challenged by all three of the groups that sued over the first set of state legislative maps: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/02\/objections-3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">LWV <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/03\/Bennett.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bennett <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/03\/OOC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">OOC <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019re expecting a ruling from the Ohio Supreme Court any day now.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<b>Congressional Map<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Ohio Redistricting Commission passed a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/davesredistricting.org\/maps#viewmap::c784da2c-9a5b-4f83-95e8-bb55eb7bae77?link_id=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">congressional map<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on March 2.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two different sets of objections were filed, each with a different remedy requested: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/03\/Adams.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adams <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/ohio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/03\/LWV2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">LWV <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li>On Friday, 3\/11, both petitioners filed amended complaints so as to include the Ohio Redistricting Commission (their first complaints were against the General Assembly as that body drew the first congressional map).<\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Commissioners have until Tuesday, 3\/15, to respond, and a ruling from the court will follow.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<b>Ohio\u2019s primary<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Secretary LaRose ordered BOEs to prepare ballots using the maps that are still being challenged in court. He is also touting this \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/elections\/voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Find My District<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d tool\u2014when districts are not yet set.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In an effort to ram through the gerrymandered maps, the GOP are refusing to move the primary, no matter what.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Late Wednesday evening (3\/9) they managed through parliamentary maneuvers to extend the deadline for overseas military to return their ballots. Nevertheless, this \u201cfix\u201d still cuts 16 days for those in active service overseas to request, receive, and return their ballots.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BOE officials, candidates, military and ALL Ohio voters are being shortchanged by the refusal to move the primary to a later date. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/actionnetwork.org\/letters\/tell-your-ohio-legislators-to-move-the-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TAKE ACTION!<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<b>Other<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The contempt hearing for Ohio Redistricting Commissioners was postponed. No new date set at this point.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/21255134\/gonidakis-lawsuit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">lawsuit<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to force reinstatement of struck down maps via Federal court is still on hold. At the 3\/14 hearing, Chief Judge Algenon L. Marbley, United States District Court Southern District of Ohio, ruled a \"brief stay\" on the lawsuit against the state's redistricting process giving time to see what decision comes out of the Ohio Supreme Court over state legislative maps.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<b>Tell your Ohio legislators to move the primary!\u00a0<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/actionnetwork.org\/letters\/tell-your-ohio-legislators-to-move-the-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Take Action<\/b><\/a>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thanks for all you do!<\/span>"}}]},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v26.6 (Yoast SEO v27.1.1) -
