The stakes are high and your support is critical because <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ohiocapitaljournal.com\/2024\/08\/01\/with-2024-campaign-growing-intense-watchdogs-warn-of-election-threats\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">election threats are real<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Please explore the opportunities below to join our efforts.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Leading Redistricting Reform<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The threats to establish a citizens redistricting commission keep coming, but they are no match to our momentum.\u00a0 On July 23, the Ohio Secretary of State certified the Citizens Not Politicians Amendment for this November\u2019s ballot with an impressive <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/2024\/2024-07-232\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">535,005 valid signatures<\/span> <\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and 58 counties that reached the 5% threshold. Next, the Ohio Ballot Board will meet on August 16 to issue ballot language and officially provide Citizens Not Politicians with a ballot number.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week, Governor Mike <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ohiochannel.org\/video\/governor-mike-dewine-7-31-2024-discussing-redistricting\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DeWine held a press conference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in an attempt to poke holes in the Citizens Not Politicians amendment. He shared his opposition to the amendment and recommended the Iowa redistricting model where elected officials have the final say. We echo retired Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensnotpoliticians.org\/statement-from-retired-chief-justice-maureen-oconnor-regarding-news-conference-by-gov-dewine\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maureen O\u2019Connor\u2019s response<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cWe\u2019re done listening to self-serving politicians tell us how they want to keep rigging the game. On to November.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now we go to work, again! We were alarmed to discover that a private group called the Ohio Election Integrity Network has been going around to the County Boards of Elections and challenging hundreds of voter registrations.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We recently sent a letter to Secretary Frank LaRose seeking a statewide directive to ensure that boards of elections respond to voter challenges consistently and according to established law. These challenges are not only an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ohiocapitaljournal.com\/2024\/07\/18\/ohio-voter-advocates-warn-group-is-making-troubling-challenges-ask-sec-of-state-to-guide-counties\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">assault on voters\u2019 rights<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a form of voter suppression, but also place a tremendous burden on election officials and taxpayers. This troubling proposal is too close to home as lawmakers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have introduced legislation to add Ohio to the list of states pushing for a convention (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.ohio.gov\/legislation\/135\/hjr3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">House Joint Resolution 3<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.ohio.gov\/legislation\/135\/hb607\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">House Bill 607<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
