Deze getuigenis is namens de Ohio Fair Courts Alliance, een staatsbreed netwerk van organisaties, gemeenschapsleiders en bezorgde burgers. Wij zetten ons in om een rechtssysteem te cre\u00ebren dat gelijkheid, eerlijkheid en rechtvaardigheid voor iedereen belichaamt en beschermt.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wij steunen deze wetgeving om de doodstraf in Ohio te be\u00ebindigen, omdat deze racistisch, onrechtvaardig, onmenselijk, willekeurig en onjuist is. Voormalig rechter van het Hooggerechtshof van Ohio, Paul Pfeifer, karakteriseerde de doodstraf als een &quot;doodsloterij... afhankelijk van waar u de misdaad begaat en de houding van de aanklager.&quot; Dit is geen gerechtigheid.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elf mannen zijn vrijgesproken van de dodencel in Ohio, die gezamenlijk 216 jaar gevangen zaten voor misdaden die ze niet hebben begaan. Voor elke vijf mensen die Ohio heeft ge\u00ebxecuteerd, is er \u00e9\u00e9n vrijgesproken van de dodencel. Zoals een vrijgesproken persoon in Ohio zei: &quot;als executie het resultaat is, moet het systeem 100 procent van de tijd perfect zijn&quot;, en we weten dat dat niet zo is.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U hebt de macht om deze fouten in de toekomst recht te zetten. Deze wetgeving heeft ongekende steun van zowel Republikeinen als Democraten, wat een enorme verschuiving in de publieke opinie over houdingen ten opzichte van de doodstraf aangeeft. Daarnaast wordt deze wetgeving onderschreven door belangenbehartigingsgroepen, vrijgesproken terdoodveroordeelden, familieleden van slachtoffers en religieuze organisaties.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nationaal hebben 23 staten plus het District of Columbia de doodstraf afgeschaft.
