Het is onnodig, oneerlijk, impopulair en ondemocratisch.<\/strong><\/div>\r\n<strong>Bel VANDAAG nog uw wetgevers: bel uw vertegenwoordiger in Ohio en uw senator in Ohio (zoek ze op) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.ohio.gov\/members\/district-maps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hier<\/a>). <\/strong>Neem ook contact op met Rep. Plummer, voorzitter van de House Constitutional Resolutions Committee op 614-644-8051 en Senator Rulli, voorzitter van de Senate General Government Committee op 614-466-8285.\r\n\r\n<strong>Als uw organisatie hieronder niet vermeld staat, maar u er toch graag bij wilt zijn, kan een bevoegde leider van uw organisatie: <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScswOQ1N4ysWTBPSE_aVm-Z7Jc0fJG5d3mebcAU2xvnWrGCuQ\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meld je hier aan<\/a>.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\nBijgewerkt op 5 mei 2023 \u2014 Ondertekend door 244 organisaties\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wij, de ondergetekende organisaties, verzetten ons tegen elke poging om het vermogen van burgers om succesvol campagnes voor steminitiatieven uit te voeren, drastisch te beperken. Elke poging van dien aard zal op brede tegenstand stuiten van diverse organisaties en kiezers in de staat.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Ohio kent een eeuwenoude traditie van burgercampagnes. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sinds 1912 hebben inwoners van Ohio van alle politieke partijen gebruikgemaakt van het recht om onze grondwet te wijzigen via het petitieproces. We zijn er trots op dat we in een staat wonen die kiezers het recht geeft op directe democratie en de mogelijkheid om echt inspraak te hebben in de politiek. We zien geen enkele rechtvaardiging om dit toch al uitdagende proces na meer dan 100 jaar plotseling nog moeilijker te maken.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Voorstellen als deze zijn buitengewoon impopulair bij kiezers, zelfs in meer conservatieve staten<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Een voorstel om een supermeerderheid te vereisen voor goedkeuring werd enkele weken geleden gemakkelijk verworpen door de kiezers van Arkansas, en de kiezers van South Dakota verwierpen er in juni 2022 een.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Inwoners van Ohio weten maar al te goed dat door burgers ge\u00efnitieerde stemcampagnes niet eenvoudig zijn<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">waarvoor honderdduizenden geverifieerde handtekeningen en een strikte geografische spreiding over ten minste de helft van de 88 provincies in Ohio vereist zijn.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Het proces wordt niet te veel gebruikt. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sinds 2018 is er geen burgerinitiatief meer geweest voor de kiezers. In de afgelopen 10 jaar waren er slechts vier verkiezingen met stemmaatregelen via handtekeningenverzameling. In de afgelopen 50 jaar waren er 28 jaar zonder een burgerinitiatief op het stembiljet. Van de verkiezingen met een stemmaatregel had slechts een handvol verkiezingen meer dan \u00e9\u00e9n kwestie waar de kiezers rekening mee moesten houden.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Dit is GEEN hervorming van goed bestuur. Het nog moeilijker maken van het steminitiatiefproces voor burgergroepen zal de <\/b><b><i>tegenovergestelde <\/i><\/b><b>van het gewenste effect<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: het zal het voor iedereen bijna onmogelijk maken <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">behalve <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grote geldschieters die met succes een referendum in Ohio hebben aangenomen.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Ik<\/b><b>Zelfs als initiatieven om de grondwet te wijzigen mislukken, hebben ze geleid tot een diepgaander publiek debat en wetgevende actie. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enkele voorbeelden:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kiezers versloegen het burgerinitiatief voor marihuana in 2015, maar de campagne haalde meer stemmen op<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bewustzijn en steun voor medicinale marihuana. Het jaar daarop, de Ohio General<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De Algemene Vergadering heeft een wet aangenomen om marihuana voor medische doeleinden te legaliseren.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burgergroepen waren in 2017 bezig met het verzamelen van handtekeningen voor een anti-gerrymandering-stembiljetinitiatief. Als resultaat van hun inspanningen werd de wetgevende macht ertoe aangezet om te onderhandelen met de burgergroepen en een bipartisan voorstel te doen. Kiezers keurden dit voorstel voor hervorming van de herindeling van de kiesdistricten in mei 2018 goed.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kiezers hebben de Drug Relief Act in 2017 verworpen, maar de aandacht voor het probleem heeft de staat ertoe aangezet om een onderzoek te starten naar tussenpersonen die het systeem oplichten en de consumenten in Ohio miljoenen dollars kosten.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wij vragen u om elk voorstel te verwerpen dat de macht van de kiezers zou wegnemen. Dit soort voorstellen is niet populair bij kiezers en manipuleert het spel tegen de inwoners van Ohio.
