Bij het tonen van hun huidige rijbewijs, dat niet voortdurend hoeft te worden bijgewerkt, mogen genaturaliseerde burgers een niet-verlopen rijbewijs meenemen met nog steeds de vermelding &quot;niet-burger&quot; op de achterkant. Dit kan leiden tot een onterechte afwijzing. Volgens de wet van Ohio, HB 458, mogen dergelijke rijbewijzen worden gebruikt als kiezerspas. De website van de minister van Buitenlandse Zaken vermeldt echter ten onrechte dat rijbewijzen met de vermelding &quot;niet-burger&quot; onacceptabele vormen van kiezerspas zijn, waardoor deze aanduiding ten onrechte wordt verward met een bewijsstuk met de vermelding &quot;niet-verlengbaar&quot;. Dit brengt het risico met zich mee dat verkiezingsfunctionarissen genaturaliseerde burgers ten onrechte hun stemrecht ontnemen. De stemrechtorganisaties die de brief sturen, dringen er bij minister LaRose op aan om zijn website onmiddellijk te corrigeren en alle lokale besturen te informeren dat een persoon met een verlengbaar rijbewijs -\u00a0<em>die, als de houder een onlangs genaturaliseerde burger is, nog steeds de aantekening \u2018niet-burger\u2019 kan dragen<\/em>n \u2014 moet toestemming hebben om die licentie als kiezers-ID te gebruiken.\r\n\r\n<em><strong>Leiders van de bovengenoemde organisaties hebben de volgende verklaring afgegeven:<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\nDe onjuiste richtlijnen van minister LaRose met betrekking tot HB 458 kunnen tot vreselijke gevolgen leiden. Hij brengt het stemrecht in gevaar. Het is niet verplicht \u2013 en het is niet altijd mogelijk \u2013 voor een pas genaturaliseerde burger om zijn of haar rijbewijs snel te vernieuwen. De wet staat een genaturaliseerde burger die geregistreerd staat om te stemmen toe om een rijbewijs te gebruiken dat hij of zij eerder ontving als permanente inwoner. De vervroegde stemming is al bijna twee weken aan de gang; deze fout moet onmiddellijk worden gecorrigeerd, anders lopen rechtmatige kiezers het risico om hun stemrecht te verliezen.
