Ohio Ballot Protection 

FirstEnergy Executives Trial Update

On February 3, the trial against Chuck Jones and Mike Dowling kicked off with opening statements. Jurors were told the next six weeks would unfold like a “movie.”

On January 28, The Akron Beacon Journal, The Cincinnati Enquirer and the Columbus Dispatch filed a lawsuit challenging portions of Judge Susan Baker Ross’ Media Participation order

In a unanimous ruling on February 17, the Ohio Supreme Court slapped down restrictions on news media by the judge

Les Wexner 

Les Wexner was subpoenaed by the US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and  was deposed in Ohio yesterday (Wexner’s public statement). 

Both Democratic and Republican candidates are in a mad dash to divest themselves of contributions from Les Wexner. Sen. Jon Husted says that he is giving the contributions he received from Les Wexner to charity. Sen. Bernie Moreno has not announced any plans to donate the money. Former Sen. Sherrod Brown $10,200 for his campaign from Abigail Wexner. His campaign has declined to comment on it.

Media and Democracy 

Trump’s IRS Lawsuit 

Trump, his family, and his businesses are suing the IRS over the leak of Trump’s tax returns years ago. Trump wants $10 billion and said, “I’m supposed to work out a settlement with myself” during a Jan. 31 press gaggle
