Urgent Ohio Alert: SB293 Hearing November 18 – Attack on Mail-in Ballots

Ohio lawmakers in the House and Senate are steaming ahead with possible votes Tuesday on Senate Bill 293 and Senate Bill 153, two harmful, extreme voting bills.

Urgent Actions: Senate Bill 293 – revokes the four-day return window for mailed ballots received after Election Day

  • 1st Hearing and Possible Vote – Tuesday, November 18 at 12:30 pm
  • Ohio Statehouse Room 114

In a highly unusual move, the House General Government Committee will be hearing SB293 for the first time, taking all forms of testimony – and the bill is already starred for a possible vote! This effort to eliminate the four-day grace period for receiving voted ballots is being pushed at the request of the Trump Administration and election deniers. Since military and overseas ballots would still be allowed to arrive up to four days after election day, the bill does nothing to address the sponsors’ claims of faster results.

We need you to take a stand! Please take action now.

1. Call committee members by Tuesday and tell them to ‘Vote NO on SB293; don’t punish active, engaged citizens for postal delays.’

  • Chair Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth): 614-466-8140
  • Vice Chair Jeff LaRe (R-Violet Township): 614-466-8100
  • Ranking Member Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland): 614-466-1408
  • Rep. Adam Bird (R-New Richmond): 614-644-6034
  • Rep. Marilyn John (R-Richland County): 614-466-5802
  • Rep. Gayle Manning (R-Avon): 614-644-5076
  • Rep. Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky): 614-644-6265
  • Rep. Kevin Miller (R-Newark): 614-466-2500
  • Rep. Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton): 614-752-2438
  • Rep. Plummer (R-Dayton): 614-644-8051

You can call right now and leave a message, or call Monday or Tuesday.

2. Submit testimony (and a completed witness slip) to the Committee Chair Sharon Ray by Monday 12:30pm via email: OHRGeneralGovernmentCommittee@ohiohouse.gov

Update on Senate Bill 153

On Tuesday, November 18 at 2pm, in the North Hearing Room, the Senate General Government Committee is holding its 6th hearing for SB153. The committee is not accepting testimony, but you can still take action: Call your state senator and tell them to reject this attack on Ohio voters.
