Common Cause Ohio Assists in Victory Against ICE in Columbus

The Franklin County Municipal Court recently proposed a new rule so that, in most circumstances, ICE arrests will no longer be allowed in the courtroom. (Read about it HERE.)

The court’s decision comes after pressure from the public (that’s YOU) as well as pressure from Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Chris Brown and State Senator Bill DeMora. This victory is a step towards making sure the courtroom is a place where everyone can access justice without fear of being abducted.

You can submit a comment to the court in favor of the proposed rule change HERE

Fight back against FLOCK Cameras in Columbus

Now we have a new target and a new goal. The use of license plate-scanning FLOCK cameras has skyrocketed in recent years. But as their use has grown, so have concerns about mass surveillance and the possibility that data could be shared with ICE or used to track protesters. An increasing number of cities have terminated their contracts with FLOCK over concerns about data-sharing.

Did you know that there are hundreds of FLOCK cameras spread all across Franklin County?

It’s anyone’s guess what information is being collected, where and how data is being shared, and who maintains control over it. The possibilities for misuse are endless and frightening.

With the current City of Columbus contract with FLOCK ending in May, we have an opportunity right now to pressure Columbus City Council not to renew.

Take Action to send emails to Columbus City Council members.
