Tell NC politicians: No gerrymanders!

Speak up for your freedom to vote – join the fight to stop the legislature’s outrageous scheme to rig the 2026 midterm elections

North Carolina’s GOP legislative leaders unleashed a shocking plan to help Donald Trump rig the 2026 midterm elections by further ripping apart the state’s historic Black Belt congressional district, Congressional District 1 (CD1).

UPDATE – Oct. 28, 2025: Voters, Pro-Democracy Groups Seek to Stop Retaliatory Redistricting Targeting NC Black Belt

Individual voters, NC NAACP and Common Cause NC are challenging the North Carolina General Assembly’s latest congressional map as an unconstitutional, retaliatory redraw designed to punish Black voters in the state’s historic Black Belt for how they voted in 2024.

UPDATE – Oct. 22, 2025: the Republican-controlled legislature imposed the new discriminatory congressional map, in defiance of overwhelming public opposition to gerrymandering.

THE DISCRIMINATORY MAP HURTS VOTERS
AND FURTHER GERRYMANDERS NC

  • Under this newest gerrymandered map, Congressional Districts 1 and 3 in Eastern North Carolina would be less representative and more racist, targeting voters in the most prominent and historic Black opportunity district in the state.
  • Congressional District 1 has been dismantled and designed to elect a Republican, eliminating the only truly competitive congressional district in North Carolina.
  • Districts outside of Districts 1 and 3 are still extreme gerrymanders, making North Carolina’s congressional map one of the least competitive in the country.
  • Regardless of where you live – this gerrymander impacts you. Even though Congressional Districts 1 and 3 are targeted in this new extreme gerrymander, because of gerrymandering legislative leaders and the courts that capitulated to them, we will all be voting in distorted districts, which become even less representative with these new maps.
  • North Carolinians deserve public hearings when it counts — throughout a redistricting process, before maps are drawn and before they are voted on. Instead, lawmakers will hold public comments after maps are released, at 10:00 a.m. on a Monday, when most voters are working, and those targeted live far from Raleigh.
  • Voters across North Carolina — including a majority of Republicans — are tired of these types of partisan games that put politics over real people.
  • If lawmakers want to build trust heading into 2026, they’d be wise to focus on issues that directly affect North Carolinians’ everyday lives, instead of wasting precious time and taxpayer dollars to further gerrymander our congressional districts, which are already among the most gerrymandered in the country.
