Voting Rights Restoration and Judicial Public Financing on the move!

Two good government bills made strides advancing from committees in both chambers this week -- HB 74 ensures that re-entering citizens are able to participate in the political process in accordance with the Constitution, and SB 160 will help justices focus on their dockets, rather than fundraising, while also preventing possible conflicts of interest.

COMMON CAUSE NEW MEXICO TO FOCUS ON PUBLIC FINANCING FOR DISTRICT COURT RACES, RANKED CHOICE VOTING IN 2021 SESSION

Common Cause has two major priorities for the 2021 legislative session: expanding public financing of judicial races and statewide ranked choice voting.

Other Key Bills We Pushed in the Special Session

We are happy to see the passage of SB8: LAW ENFORCEMENT BODY CAMERAS to hold police accountable and improve transparency. We will continue to advocate for bills similar to SB7: REDUCE INSTITUTIONAL RACISM after it faltered in the Special Session.
