Statement of Annastacia Belladonna-Carrera, Common Cause Minnesota Executive Director\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\r\n\u201cIn the Gopher State, we expect unanimity from candidates of every party when it comes to protecting our freedom to vote. Minnesotans\u2019 voting rights have always been and must remain a nonpartisan issue.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, in Minnesota, MAGA Republicans are attacking legislation to strengthen and protect our right to vote, a complete disregard for the will of the people.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nCommon Cause Minnesota is a staunchly nonpartisan organization. That\u2019s why we must denounce misinformation spread by those running for local office, all the way up to the former president, about our elections \u2014 lies which have repeatedly been disproven. Silence and inaction is not an option.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWe expect political candidates to uphold our freedom to vote, not deny it. It is imperative we call on our past, present, and future leaders to uphold the freedom to vote and support fair, safe, and accessible elections.<\/span>\r\n\r\nWe must also denounce violence and rhetoric that leads to violence. The Big Lie led to the January 6 insurrection, and it is critical we never see such a blatant attack on our democratic institutions and freedom again.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nMinnesota consistently has some of the highest voter turnout in the country. Ms. Crockett\u2019s rhetoric undermines confidence in our elections and the work to protect the voting rights Minnesotans across party lines work to defend.\u201d\r\n<\/span>\r\n
