\r\n\r\nThe League of Women Voters of Massachusetts has honored Pam Wilmot\u2019s decades of work with Common Cause Massachusetts, presenting her with their \u201cLucy Stone Lifetime Achievement Award.\u201d\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n
\r\n\r\nLWVMA Director Nancy Brumback presented Wilmot with the award yesterday, during the online celebration of its 100th anniversary.\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n
\r\n\r\n\u201cLWVMA salutes you for your many years of building broad coalitions, drafting legislators and other state officials and employing grassroots organizing strategies to win dozens of ground-breaking election reforms in Massachusetts,\u201d the commendation reads. \u201cThank you for being the Commonwealth\u2019s \u2018watchdog-in-chief\u2019 calling out questionable actions affecting voting, campaign finance and redistricting. LWMVA has been honored to be your close partner in many of these endeavors.\u201d\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n
\r\n\r\nWilmot has served with Common Cause Massachusetts for more than 22 years. She was promoted to<\/a> Vice President of State Operations for Common Cause earlier this year. She now oversees a nationwide network of 30 state offices and advisory boards, including Common Cause Massachusetts.\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n
\r\n\r\n\u201cI\u2019ve stuck with this work because of you\u2014the friends, colleagues, activists, and elected officials who inspire me every day,\u201d Wilmot said. \u201cFighting for Democracy is not easy, but it is deeply gratifying. Working for Common Cause and our mission of promoting open, accountable government and free and fair elections allows me to affect every other issue I care about, because we won\u2019t have good solutions to the problems that plague our state or nation until all government decisions are made on the merits and in the public interest.\u201d\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n
\r\n\r\n\u201cIt means a lot to me personally to accept an award named after such an inspirational leader, Lucy Stone,\u201d Wilmot added. \u201cIf I embody one tenth of Lucy\u2019s grit and determination, I will count myself lucky.\u201d\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n
About Lucy Stone: Born in West Brookfield, Massachusetts in 1818 Lucy Stone was the first woman from Massachusetts to receive a college degree. She went on to a long career as an abolitionist and advocate for women\u2019s rights.
