We are grateful to all those who joined our People\u2019s Lobby, in ways big and small, and made sure the people\u2019s interests came first.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n

Launched the Platform for People Power<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\n \"\"<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe Win:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Right now, our democracy is being attacked from every angle.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why Common Cause Massachusetts launched the \u2018Platform for People Power,\u2019<\/a>\u00a0our legislative priorities\u00a0that\u00a0meet this moment and\u00a0act\u00a0at the state and local level.\u00a0We also held a\u00a0<\/span>\u2018People\u2019s Lobby Day\u2019<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>at the Statehouse in June.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWhy It Matters:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>These\u00a0commonsense, pro-democracy legislative priorities put the most essential element of our democracy\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the people\u00a0\u2014\u00a0front and center.\u00a0Our\u00a0People\u2019s Lobby Day\u00a0brought members from across\u00a0Massachusetts\u00a0to\u00a0the State House to speak to their lawmakers about\u00a0key issues like\u00a0Same Day Registration, guaranteed hybrid meeting access, and ballot question<\/span>s<\/span> funding transparency. Built a\u00a0People-Powered Movement<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\n \"\"<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe Win:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>To build our on the ground people power, we\u2019ve hosted 3<\/span> \u2018Coffees with a Cause\u201d in Brighton, Lowell, and Medway, held <\/span>monthly\u00a05\u00a0\u2018People Power\u00a0Hours,\u2019\u00a0and\u00a0facilitated\u00a08\u00a0organizing\u00a0trainings\u00a0for our members.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWhy It Matters:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>We know that when We the People come together, we can make a real and lasting difference in our communities. Took the People\u2019s Promise to D.C.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe Win:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>We hand-delivered petitions from thousands of\u00a0our members\u00a0to the Massachusetts congressional delegation. While in D.C., we met with lawmakers and staff, urging them to support a budget that puts the needs of everyday people before billionaires.\u00a0Common Cause Massachusetts is fighting for you at every level of government, from city councils to Congress.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWhy It Matters:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Common Cause is standing with partners across the nation to demand that the government stop attacking our rights, undermining our democracy, and enriching the ultra-wealthy, while driving up the cost of living for working-class Americans. \u00a0\"\"<\/span><\/p>\r\nThe Win:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Common Cause\u00a0Massachusetts\u00a0organized\u00a0a broad coalition of elected officials,\u00a0healthcare professionals, housing experts, and faith leaders to testify in support of same day voter registration.\u00a0We\u00a0held two press conferences at the Statehouse and in\u00a0the city of\u00a0Boston, urging\u00a0lawmakers\u00a0to pass legislation to ensure all polling places are accessible to voters with disabilities<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0to prevent eligible voters from being dropped from the voter rolls for not responding to the census.<\/span>\r\n\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWhy It Matters:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>It\u2019s more important than ever to ensure that every eligible voter who wishes\u00a0to cast a ballot on Election Day is able to do\u00a0so.\u00a0The SAVE Act and President Trump\u2019s elections executive order aim to roll back over 15 years of progress made in Massachusetts election laws by restricting vote-by-mail, automatic voter registration, online voter registration, pre-registration, and more.\u00a0Bay State voters are fighting back, using their voices to demand greater access to the ballot box.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nTell your lawmaker to\u00a0support same day\u00a0voter registration by clicking here.\u00a0<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n

Blocked<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>A\u00a0Dangerous Article V Convention<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe Win:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Thanks to a multi-year campaign led by Common Cause Massachusetts, the\u00a0Massachusetts\u00a0legislature moved to protect all Americans\u2019 constitutional rights by rescinding the\u00a0state\u2019s\u00a0previous\u00a0calls for an Article V Convention.<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWhy It Matters:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0By stopping an Article V Convention in its tracks, we are protecting all people\u2019s fundamental rights and freedoms. Shined a Light on Big Money\u2019s Impact\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0Ballot\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\r\n\"\"<\/h3>\r\nThe Win:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Common Cause\u00a0Massachusetts worked with legislators to introduce the B<\/em><\/span><\/a>allot Spending Transparency Act<\/em> (<\/span>H.868\/<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>S.507.)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0This new legislation would increase transparency in the reporting process for campaign spending on statewide ballot questions.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWhy It Matters:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Currently, ballot question spending goes\u00a0completely\u00a0unreported for eight months of the year, only being published just\u00a060 days\u00a0before the election.\u00a0<\/span>Massachusetts voters deserve to know, in real time, who is funding the ballot questions that will\u00a0impact\u00a0their lives<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0The Ballot Spending Transparency Act will empower voters with this valuable information, ensuring big-money special interests\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0go undetected when they try to buy their preferred policies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nLearn more about the Ballot Spending Transparency Act<\/em> here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWe\u2019re\u00a0so proud of the wins we secured for democracy in 2025, but we know our work\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0over.
