“We hope that this decision marks the end of the partisan-led effort to overturn the 2020 election results. Massachusetts voters deserve to have confidence that our election choices will be honored – even by losing candidates. We appreciate that the Appeals Court has upheld the lower court’s decision.” 

The House of Representatives made progress on much needed reforms in the VOTES Act, like vote by mail, expanded early voting, and jail-based voting which will make our democracy stronger.

The Election Modernization Coalition urges House members to restore Same Day Registration. When the bill was first filed, it included Same Day voter registration; and 84 Representatives, the majority of House members, signed on as cosponsors.

The bill that’s coming to the floor only got to the red zone, because a key provision – Same-Day Voter Registration – was dropped in Committee. To score a touchdown for the people of the Commonwealth, legislators need to support an amendment that puts same day registration back into the bill.

The Massachusetts Legislature must now move quickly to pass the VOTES Act (S.2554), which includes same-day voter registration and other voting reforms for our state.

The competition, designed by the Common Cause Student Action Alliance, invited youth ages 14-28 to raise their voices on any set of nine democracy issues, including access to voting, campaign finance reform, fighting against gerrymandering, and more.
