\r\n\r\nAnnapolis, MD\u00a0<\/span>\u2014\u00a0Today,\u00a0Common Cause\u00a0Maryland\u00a0demanded the\u00a0Governor\u2019s Redistricting Advisory Commission\u00a0release any new\u00a0congressional\u00a0maps before holding further hearings, arguing voters deserve transparency before being asked to support changes to their districts.\r\n\r\n\u201cAny conversation about Maryland\u00a0mid-decade\u00a0redistricting is\u00a0moot\u00a0unless Marylanders are able to see the new maps they are being asked to support,\u201d\u00a0said Joanne Antoine, executive director, Common Cause\u00a0Maryland.\u00a0<\/strong>\"Voters can\u2019t make informed decisions about this process if the Commission isn\u2019t fully transparent.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0asking the Commission: release the maps.\u201d\r\n\r\nThis\u00a0is\u00a0the second time the Commission\u00a0is meeting,\u00a0and\u00a0the first hearing held without\u00a0providing maps for public input.\u00a0Maps should be made available before the next public hearing takes place.\r\n\r\nCommon Cause does not endorse partisan gerrymandering and\u00a0created\u00a0its\u00a0fairness\u00a0criteria as a national framework to guide states as they navigate this escalating redistricting cycle. The criteria were developed to prevent partisan reactions\u2014Democratic and Republican alike\u2014from entrenching long-term inequities in representation. To date, Common Cause has evaluated mid-decade redistricting in three states: California, Missouri, and Texas. States must meet all six criteria to avoid Common Cause\u2019s opposition.\r\n\r\nCommon Cause\u2019s Six Fairness Criteria:\r\n
