Mais elle a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 marqu\u00e9e par une s\u00e9rie de scandales \u2013 notamment les accusations de corruption port\u00e9es par le FBI contre un d\u00e9l\u00e9gu\u00e9 du comt\u00e9 de Prince George\u00b9 \u2013 qui soul\u00e8vent des questions sur les moyens d&#039;influencer les affaires d&#039;Annapolis. L&#039;hiver dernier, Common Cause Maryland a choisi d&#039;\u00e9tudier plus en profondeur un secteur d&#039;activit\u00e9\u00a0: celui des cautions, ces soci\u00e9t\u00e9s priv\u00e9es qui, moyennant des frais, s&#039;engagent \u00e0 fournir une somme d&#039;argent ou des biens en garantie de la comparution des personnes accus\u00e9es devant le tribunal. Nos recherches sur le secteur des cautions d\u00e9montrent comment les d\u00e9penses du secteur priv\u00e9 permettent d&#039;acqu\u00e9rir de l&#039;influence. CCMD a examin\u00e9 les d\u00e9penses de campagne et de lobbying de ce secteur, dressant un tableau r\u00e9v\u00e9lateur du fonctionnement des groupes d&#039;int\u00e9r\u00eats. Le Maryland figure parmi les \u00c9tats qui re\u00e7oivent le plus de dons de campagne de la part du secteur des cautions, se classant juste derri\u00e8re la Californie et la Floride, selon les donn\u00e9es de FollowtheMoney.org. En analysant les dons aux candidats individuels, on constate que nos deux principaux b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaires de dons li\u00e9s aux cautions, le s\u00e9nateur Bobby Zirkin et le d\u00e9put\u00e9 Joseph Vallario, se classent respectivement deuxi\u00e8me et troisi\u00e8me au niveau national. Le total des dons du secteur des cautions entre 2011 et 2017 s&#039;\u00e9levait \u00e0 100\u00a0000 $ (1\u00a0040\u00a0000 $). Lors du dernier cycle \u00e9lectoral, les dons ont totalis\u00e9 100\u00a0000 $ (1\u00a0040\u00a0000 $). Pour le cycle \u00e9lectoral en cours, ce chiffre devrait largement d\u00e9passer ce montant, ayant d\u00e9j\u00e0 atteint 100\u00a0000 $ (1\u00a0040\u00a0000 $) au cours des deux premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es seulement.
