Watchdog Group: Secretary Noem’s Blatant DHS Partisanship Just Won’t Fly

Newly filed complaints add to Trump White House’s 50+ alleged ethics violations during shutdown

워싱턴 D.C. – Common Cause, a national, nonpartisan watchdog, filed three complaints against the Trump Administration for violations of ethics laws, including the Hatch Act, when Secretary Kristi Noem directed airports to air a video with explicitly hyper partisan messaging.

“The Department of Homeland Security’s role in airports is to protect travelers, not politicize the security line,” 말했다 Omar Noureldin, senior vice president of policy and litigation at Common Cause. “Secretary Noem is using her office to push partisan talking points instead of doing her job to keep travelers safe — that’s a misuse of power and a betrayal of public trust.”

In spite of the White House boasting that the video is being played across the country, airport leaders are instead flying above partisan politics.  According to Forbes, the top ten busiest airports in the country have all refused to show the video. Common Cause commends state and municipal leaders for their courage in the face of Washington’s partisan pressure campaign. Common Cause also reiterates its call for a robust ethics watchdog that can hold the entire executive branch accountable if similar attempts are made to abuse public authority in the future.
